Tumkur, 22 Feb

JD(S) Youth Wing State President Nikhil Kumaraswamy confirmed that he would contest the 2028 Assembly polls from the Ramanagara constituency.

“Ramanagara has given the (State) Chief Minister(s), and has given the (country a )Prime Minister,” he told press in Tumakuru. “So there is no way that I am opting for another constituency.”

Nikhil’s father HD Kuamraswamy, mother Anitha, and grandfather HD Devegowda had previously represented the Ramanagara constituency. HDK went on to become the chief minister and is now serving as a Union Minister, while Devegowda served both as the chief minister and prime minister.

However, Congress’ Iqbal Hussain won the JD(S) stronghold by over 13,000 votes in 2023.

At the time, Nikhil was also pursuing a career as an actor, staring in films such as 2021’s ‘Rider’. However, his stint in Sandalwood did not produce meaningful results and the his movies had dismal box office returns.

Reflecting on his 2023 loss, Nikhil said that it was a “last minute call” for him to stand in the election.

“I had to stand for my party, though somewhere around the corner, I knew the result,” he said. Nokhil had also lost the seat in 2019.
