Belagavi, 25 March

Amid rumours of fuel shortage, authorities in Belagavi have prohibited the sale of petrol and diesel in bottles, cans, or any portable containers at fuel stations across the city.

The ban order was issued by City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase following reports that motorists, driven by panic, were not only filling their vehicle tanks but also stockpiling fuel in containers.

Officials have warned that such practices of stockpiling fuels could lead to an artificial shortage and also can pose serious risks to public.

All petrol pump owners and staff have been directed to strictly comply with the order failing which will invite legal action, the police warned.

Police and Hoysala patrol vehicles will conduct round-the-clock surveillance across the city, ensuring security at fuel stations and maintaining law and order, the city officials further said.
