reportedly went out of control in the high-security Ballari Central Jail, and
some prisoners attacked the jailer, Ashok Hosamani, as they were not getting
beedis and cigarettes.
Recently,
security inside the jail had been tightened, and prison staff had taken strong
measures to prevent the supply of beedis and cigarettes. Angered by this, some prisoners turned against the authorities.
The
inmates involved in the assault are Altaf, Rasheed, Vinod, Saleem, and Raju.
They had been asking jail staffers to supply them with beedis and cigarettes. Soon, they got into a heated argument with jailer Ashok Hosamani.

on his hand and neck. Other staffers rushed to the spot and brought the
situation under control. The injured officer was treated at the jail hospital.
After
receiving information about the incident, Ballari ASP Naveen Kumar visited the
jail and conducted an inspection. He reviewed the security situation and the
behaviour of inmates and asked the staff to take strict measures to maintain
order.
A case has been registered at the Brucepet Police Station in Ballari against Altaf, Rasheed, Vinod, Saleem and Raju for assaulting a public servant.
