Chamarajanagar man thrashed, arrested for defaming Dr BR Ambedkar portrait

Residents demanded strict action to prevent such incidents from happening again.

Mysuru, 13 June


Tension prevailed in Masanapura village of Yelandur taluk in Chamarajanagar district on Sunday after a 25-year-old youth was arrested on charges of defacing a portrait of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.


Chandru, a resident, was allegedly caught smearing dung on the portrait. He was tied to an electric pole and thrashed by villagers before being handed over to the police.


Upon receiving the information, a team of police led by Additional Superintendent of Police Shashidhar, Yelandur, rushed to the village to bring the situation under control.


Residents demanded strict action to prevent such incidents from happening again.


Shashidhar said that a case has been registered and the police are investigating the matter.


Additional police personnel have been stationed at the village as a precautionary measure.
