Yadgir, 17 June

More than 60 people, including students, were injured on Wednesday morning when a state transport bus overturned on the roadside after the driver allegedly lost control near Alhal village in Yadgir district.

The bus was travelling from Talikoti to Kembhavi town with around 80 passengers, including school and college students. It overturned on the Alhal road after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road.

The bus finally came to a halt after hitting an electric pole in a nearby field. Residents broke the rear window of the bus to rescue those on board.

Fifteen critically injured persons have been admitted to Shahapur Hospital, while those with minor injuries are being treated at the community health centre in Kembhavi.

Passengers alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol while driving, for which he was reportedly assaulted by angry locals.

Police from Kembhavi Police Station are probing into the incident.
