Bengaluru, 1 July

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety Janak Kumar Garg had directed the BMRCL to investigate service disruptions over the past three years and submit a report on the corrective measures.

The development comes after Surya wrote to the commissioner on 23 June, highlighting the need for safety and accountability in Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) operations following the disruption of Metro services on the Purple Line.

Surya posted an exchange of letters between the two on his X in which Garg advised the BMRCL to conduct an audit of the effectiveness of the operational and maintenance aspects of the Metro railway system.

"This is no longer about isolated technical failures. The repeated disruptions raise serious concerns about the safety, reliability, and maintenance standards of Bengaluru's Metro system. Passenger safety and convenience must be BMRCL's highest priority, not an afterthought," Surya said, according to a release.

He urged the State government and BMRCL to treat the nearly 20 service disruptions since January 2024 as a wake-up call, and restore the confidence of lakhs of daily commuters.
