With rainfall easing in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, river inflows in Belagavi district have dropped significantly, easing the flood situation in parts of the district. Three bridges in Chikkodi subdivision, submerged for the past few days, reopened to traffic on Saturday as water levels receded in the Krishna, Vedaganga and Doodhganga rivers.
Of the nine low-level bridges submerged in Chikkodi subdivision, three have now been cleared for traffic, while six remain closed. The historic Kudachi-Ugar bridge in Raibag taluk, a key link between Karnataka and Maharashtra, has also reopened after the Krishna receded, offering relief to commuters in the border region.
As inflows into the Vedaganga river declined, the Jattat-Bhivashi and Bhoj-Kunnur bridges in Nippani taluk reopened as well, restoring normal traffic on both routes.
