Bengaluru, 6 Oct

The Karnataka Cabinet on Tuesday favoured increasing the price of Nandini milk by Rs 8-10 per litre, with Chief Minister DK Shivakumar likely to take the final call after elec-tions to four Legislative Council seats, official sources said.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has sought a Rs 10 per litre increase. If imple-mented at Rs 8, it would be the highest single hike in milk prices in Karnataka and the fifth increase in recent years.

Milk prices were raised by Rs 4 per litre in March 2025 and by Rs 2 in June 2024, when consumers were given an additional 50 ml for every litre. The additional quantity was later withdrawn by KMF.

The proposed hike comes amid the ongoing drought, with ministers saying it would im-prove returns to dairy farmers. Bus fares have also been increased, though details were awaited at the time of publication.

The Model Code of Conduct is in force for elections to two graduates’ and two teachers’ Legislative Council constituencies. Polling is scheduled for 23 October and counting on 27 October. No official briefing was held after the Cabinet meeting due to the MCC. Several ministers, however, confirmed the Cabinet’s decision and said Shivakumar had been authorised to take the final call.

The Cabinet also rejected two proposals seeking denotification of land acquired by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). One involved 362.21 acres ac-quired for the Suvarna Karnataka Development Corridor in Shivamogga taluk, while the other concerned 1 acre and 39 guntas in Harohalli taluk of Bengaluru South district.

It also approved a Rs 704-crore scheme to digitalise the judiciary. The proposal includes a judiciary data centre and disaster rehabilitation centre through the Karnataka State Data Centre, besides other digital initiatives.

The Cabinet further approved procurement of medicines for public health hospitals at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore. It also discussed dividing the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate into five police commissionerates, under the overall supervision of the Commissioner of
Police.
