Key spots like Dubjan and Peer-ki-Gali will be developed. Infrastructure projects include eco-friendly huts, cafeterias, and viewing decks, pending forest department approvals

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unveils tourism development plans for Mughal Road

The Jammu and Kashmir government plans to develop tourism-related infrastructure at several tourist spots. These will be along the Mughal Road connecting Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian in south Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave this information in a written reply to an unstarred question asked by Independent MLA Shabir Ahmad Kulle in the Assembly on 22 March.
Kulle represents the Shopian constituency and has sought information about the proposed steps to be taken to provide tourism-related infrastructure along the Mughal Road to attract more tourists there. Dubjan, Mughal Sarai, Peer-ki-Gali and Shakroo Keller located on the Mughal Road are known for their natural beauty and scenic landscapes, making them promising sites for tourism development.
The tourism department has taken various initiatives to develop tourism-related infrastructure in the area. Various tourism-related infrastructure were sanctioned in Shopian at a cost of Rs 6.32 crore under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. The department has completed 12 works at a cost of Rs 2.51 crore under the capex budget and eight new works have been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 84 lakh for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Besides, the department intends to develop tourism infrastructure in Dubjan and Peer-ki-Gali. However, at present construction is not permitted in the area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the forest department. The chief minister said in the statement that the department intends to construct eco-log huts, cafeteria, dormitories, viewing decks and other necessary infrastructure in these areas, for which the department will take up the matter with the forest department and will also apply for land transfer on the Parivesh portal.
