SURREY, 7 AUG

Kap’s Café, owned by Indian comedian Kapil Sharma in Surrey, Canada, was targeted by gunfire for the second time in less than a month, with the latest incident occurring early Thursday morning.

Located at 85 Avenue and Scott Road, the café was riddled with at least six bullet holes. Witnesses reported hearing over 25 gunshots. Emergency vehicles cordoned off the area as investigations began. No injuries were reported.

The café had previously come under attack earlier in July, just days after its opening. The repeated violence has sparked fears of gang-related extortion and threats to South Asian business owners in the region.

Online posts by accounts linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and Babbar Khalsa International — the latter associated with Khalistani figure Harjit Singh Laddi — claimed responsibility for the recent shooting. Motives mentioned include extortion and retaliation for remarks allegedly made by Sharma in his shows.

Police have yet to confirm the motive, but investigations are underway. Kapil Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, had reopened the café less than two weeks ago, thanking authorities and locals for their support after the first attack.
