Nearly 24 hours after Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of US President Donald Trump was assassinated, the FBI has released a photo of the sniper who killed him. The federal agency also offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information.

31-year-old Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday by a sniper at the Utah Valley University campus, where he was taking part in a debate.

Federal, state and local authorities were working what they called “multiple active crime scenes."

As the search stretched into a second day, they provided little information about the shooter's identity, motive, location or evidence and were reviewing grainy security videos of a mysterious person in dark clothing.

However, on Thursday evening, they released the photo of a "person of interest" and appealed to the public for information.

The two photos released by the FBI show a person wearing a cap, sunglasses and a long-sleeve black shirt.

The sniper who killed the 31-year-old jumped off the roof and fled after firing the shot.

Releasing the photo, the FBI said, “We are asking for the public's help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.”

They further said, “The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk”.
