French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, plan to present scientific evidence in a US court to prove that the first lady is a woman, their lawyers said.
The move comes as part of a defamation lawsuit against American right-wing podcaster Candace Owens, who repeatedly claimed that Brigitte was born male.
Speaking on BBC’s ‘Fame Under Fire’ podcast, Tom Clare, a lawyer representing the Macrons, said the allegations were “incredibly upsetting” to Brigitte and a “distraction” for the President.
Clare added that the couple is fully prepared to show “both generically and specifically” that Owens’ claims are false. “Expert testimony will be presented that is scientific in nature,” he said.
The evidence will also include photographs of Brigitte during pregnancy and raising her children, Clare noted.
He acknowledged that the process will require Brigitte to subject herself to public scrutiny, but said she is determined to do what it takes to “set the record straight.”
