A juvenile from Rajasthan was apprehended for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account in the name of an IPS officer and collecting money from people on various pretexts, police said on Wednesday.

The accused created a fake account in the name of IPS officer Narayana M, who is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City Division) in Bengaluru, they said.

Police recovered Rs 2 lakh in cash from the juvenile, which was allegedly part of the money fraudulently obtained through fake bank accounts.

After the matter came to light, a case was registered at Hebbagodi police station, police said.

According to police, the accused used the fake account to send friend requests to the officer's acquaintances and members of the public, and subsequently collected money from them under various pretexts.

During the investigation, police busted an organised network operating from Kota Khurd village in Rajasthan, a senior police officer said.

On 24 August, police issued a notice to the parents of the juvenile, who was allegedly involved in the offence, and took him into custody for questioning, they said.
